You can choose your swimming stroke. Most people swim freestyle. If you’re swimming in a pool, agree with those in your lane about who will start first (the fastest swimmer in your lane) and make sure you always swim on the right side of the lane. This applies both ways, allowing faster swimmers to pass through the middle.

Wearing a wetsuit is mandatory when the water temperature is below 15.9 degrees and prohibited at temperatures of 22 degrees and above. This is under the NTB regulations, which can be viewed on the NTB site. Information on water temperature is communicated via social media and our website. A neoprene swimsuit is considered a wetsuit under the NTB regulations.

Compression socks may be worn during a triathlon. However, there is one important condition: they may not be worn during swimming. During swimming, the hands and feet must remain uncovered. For this reason, most triathletes use compression tubes, which are socks without the foot section. Note: tubes are only allowed if swimming in a wetsuit is permitted in the competition. If wetsuit use is not allowed because the water temperature is too high, then tubes are also not permitted during swimming.

Please submit your request in advance via deelnemer@triathlonholten.nl and clearly indicate who it concerns. We will try to take this into account when compiling the start lists. However, we cannot guarantee that it will succeed.

For determining age, we adhere to NTB rules. This means that the age you have on December 31, 2024, determines the category in which you participate.

Example 1:
If you were born on April 15, 2008, your age during the event is 16. On December 31, 2024, your age is still 16. Therefore, you are classified in the category 16-19 years.

Example 2:
If you were born on August 15, 2008, your age during the event is 15. However, on December 31, 2024, the age is 16. Therefore, classification takes place in the category 16-19 years.

The Holten Triathlon has been around for almost 40 years. At that time, the triathlon was written with an ‘h’ in Dutch. The Dutch spelling has since been adjusted, and we comply with it. However, because we are known as the Holten Triathlon, we have kept the ‘h’ in combination with Holten.
