The date for the 36th edition of the Triathlon Holten, which was canceled this year due to the coronavirus, is known.
On Friday, July 2, and Saturday, July 3, 2021, Holten will once again be the center of the triathlon world for a weekend.
Once again famous combination of international top competitions and a program full of sports and ambiance for amateurs and spectators.
The Triathlon Holten will once again be the battlefield for an international triathlon for elite athletes in 2021. For the 15th consecutive time, a prestigious Premium European Cup race has been assigned to Holten by the European Triathlon Union. On the renowned course in and around the Salland ridge, world-class athletes compete for ranking points and the podium. The race in Holten has been on the international calendar since 2002. The date of the Triathlon Holten is allocated and largely depends on this calendar. The elite junior series has also been allocated to Holten by the European federation this year, adding even more top-level spectacle.
For recreational participants and the public, as in previous editions, a full sporting and festive program is scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The popular Vivera Run on Friday evening is being organized for the fifth time, thus celebrating its first lustrum. The organization hopes to create a triathlon festival that surpasses even the caliber of previous editions.
Extra sublime edition or adapted scenario?
The organization of the Triathlon Holten has been eagerly preparing possible scenarios for 2021 for some time. These are, of course, dependent on the development of the coronavirus and its containment. Factors that are still unpredictable at the moment.
“We hope for all athletes, volunteers, visitors, sponsors, and other parties involved enormously for a scenario where the event can take place in its original form again,” says Martin Pieters, chairman of the Stichting Triathlon Holten. “Our goal is to treat everyone in that case to an extra sublime edition after a difficult period and a year without Triathlon Holten.”
Currently, various situations are being actively investigated both within the organization and with various agencies, including International Topsport Events Twente. Pieters continues: “If a regular event turns out not to be possible, we want to be prepared for alternative scenarios. It is our priority to ensure the safety and health of all involved at all times. At the same time, we try to keep the sports and ambiance experience intact as much as the situation allows.”
Registration does not open in December as in previous years, but in the new year.
