A lifetime of movement in Overijssel

start at the Triathlon Holten

Triathlon Holten once again shows what the power of sport is. The VIP arena in the heart of Holten was the meeting place for all sporty Overijssel Friday morning.

Guests directly working in sport and healthcare attended the Kick-Off of ‘A Lifetime of Movement in Overijssel’ on Friday morning. An initiative by the Province of Overijssel that aims to get all of Overijssel moving. Of course, not alone, but together with the many organizations, municipalities, and other initiators that are active. Over the past year, two provincial quartermasters have made connections, motivated initiators, and deployed talent. The moment now is to use all organizational power and energy.

That he chose the triathlon weekend in Holten for this is not surprising. “Triathlon Holten is the prime example to get people moving. Not only the participants but also the volunteers and the audience it attracts,” says Boerman. “All of Overijssel in motion is created for a vital society and to meet each other. Sport is a huge unifying factor. You see that here in Holten.”

The organization of the Triathlon welcomed over a hundred guests in the VIP tent. A presentation took place there in collaboration with the province of Overijssel. Nine initiators from all over Overijssel, directly involved with movement and sport, also spoke. From Exercise Gardens to Running Land and from Talent Development Overijssel to Neighborhood Sport Coach Academy. They called for cooperation, sharing knowledge, pooling strengths, and above all, action.

Passionate and enthusiastic, the speakers shared their experiences with the audience. Former PEC Zwolle sports executive Arjan Jansen stood out with his plea about the importance of exemplary behavior for children. He even made an appeal. “Do you have a top athlete in your vicinity? Bring him or her on stage as an example for all children. Use those top athletes!”

During the kick-off, the attendees also got moving themselves. At the edge of the VIP area, they could engage in discussions at nine sports cafés. To conclude, former skater Moniek Kleinsman, chairman of Triathlon Holten Martin Pieters, Paralympic dressage rider Frank Hosmar, and Bert Boerman shared what sport means and has brought to them. Finally, the Sport Talent Fund was launched, an initiative by the so-called ‘frontrunners’ who want to stimulate and enable talent development in athletes and organizations. The partners in this are Ocon Sport, Pro-f, the province of Overijssel, and the Centre for Sports and Education.
