Captain wins junior race in her name, Arved Brandt surprising winner among men

The Triathlon Junior Cup on Saturday produced an Estonian and a German winner. During the 38th Triathlon Holten, Liis Kapten was named the fastest woman, while Kjell Arved Brandt claimed the victory in the men’s event.

The Triathlon Junior Cup women opened the second day of triathlon in Holten on Saturday. At 09:30, the starting gun was fired at the Domelaar for the women’s race. An hour later, it was Liis Kapten who crossed the finish line first.

“It was tough,” said the winner from Estonia after her victorious race. “During the cycling, I wasn’t in an ideal group, but we managed to create a gap. During the running, I just kept my own pace and won. This is the second time I’m participating in Holten. Last year, I was sick and it didn’t go well. So I’m happy to have won.”

There was also joy for Kjell Arved Brandt, who could also take his place on the highest podium in Holten. To his own surprise, the athlete from Germany won the junior men’s race. “This was only my second international race,” explained Arved Brandt. “My first was a super sprint and it didn’t go well. I already had the idea that a normal sprint would go better, but this was certainly a surprise. If my schedule allows, I’ll definitely come back next year.”
