Holten Championship explodes

Who will succeed the Muller brothers?

Even during the thirty-fifth edition of the Triathlon Holten, the battle for the title ‘fastest Holtenaar’ is once again on. Both in the eighth triathlon and the Olympic distance, the male titleholders are missing this year. Who will follow in the footsteps of Marco and Mark Muller?

Four-time Holten champion
Last year, Mark Muller could call himself the fastest triathlete in the Olympic distance at the Triathlon Holten. This automatically crowned him the fastest Holtenaar at that distance. It was his third consecutive victory in the battle for the Holten championship, allowing him to keep the trophy. “Next year, I can’t defend the Holten title. I’m moving to Deventer soon and will no longer be a Holtenaar. So, for now, it’s my last Holten championship,” said Muller at the time.

The name Mark Muller is indeed missing from the Olympic Distance start list this year. The triathlete will start in the thirty-fifth edition of the Triathlon Holten but not as a Holtenaar. “I have indeed moved,” said Muller, “but I will participate in the company triathlon. I had a broken toe and am participating for fun. I can’t go full throttle.” Muller indicates that he finds it unfortunate that he is no longer a Holtenaar, knowing how alive the battle for the Holten championship is within the village. On the other hand, there was no better moment to say goodbye. “I’ve won the Holten championship four times, the last two times with dominance. It was well enough.”

Successors
Jessie Muller seems to be one of the candidates to take over the title of Holten champion in the Olympic Distance. Last year, in the battle for the Holten championship, Muller, who finished fifth overall, ended up in second place. The third place in the Holten championship on the OD went to Andy de Jong, who will appear at the start again this year.

On the same distance, Britt le Fevre crowned herself the fastest Holten woman. A title she defends this year. Le Fevre’s name also appears on the Olympic distance start list during the thirty-fifth edition of the Triathlon Holten.

Contenders in the eighth triathlon
The titleholder of the Holten championship among the men is also missing in the eighth triathlon. Last year, Marco Muller could call himself the fastest Holten man in that category, but like Mark Muller, he is now a resident of Deventer. Glenn ten Berge, who last year was number two in the battle for the Holten championship, will not start in the eighth triathlon this year. Ten Berge is participating in the Company Triathlon during the thirty-fifth Triathlon Holten. Stefan Pekkeriet seems to be one of the contenders to succeed Marco Muller as Holten champion in the eighth triathlon. Pekkeriet finished third in the local championship battle during the 2018 edition.
