‘Team Maarten’ raises money on July 3 for cancer research and projects by participating

Maarten van der Weijden is participating in the Triathlon Holten 2021. The former Olympic and world champion open water swimmer announced this today. Together with about 40 other participants, he forms ‘Team Maarten’ on July 3, which collects money for organizations focusing on cancer research and care for cancer patients.

Maarten van der Weijden encourages and supports scientific or care initiatives with his MvdW Foundation to ultimately prevent patients from dying of cancer or to improve the quality of life of cancer patients.

In 2020, the foundation established ‘Team Maarten’. Van der Weijden, along with a team of approximately 40 participants in varying composition, participates in several prominent sporting events. The goal is for all participants to raise as much money as possible through donations for the MvdW Foundation, which is entirely used to benefit the supported projects.

“Cool event”

Van der Weijden himself selects the cycling, running, and triathlon events and announced them on Friday, January 29. “The Triathlon Holten seems like a really cool event to participate in with Team Maarten,” he says.

The organization is greatly looking forward to the arrival of Maarten and his team members, who will be recognizable during the event by their MvdW Foundation shirts. “It’s incredibly cool that a sports icon like Maarten van der Weijden is participating and that we can offer a platform with the Triathlon Holten for the athletic performances and wonderful initiatives of the foundation and Team Maarten,” said chairman Martin Pieters.

You can sign up for or support the team through the foundation. More information about that can be found here.
