Mark Muller hits double win at Olympic Distance

Britt le Fevre fastest woman from Holten

During the 34th edition of the Triathlon Holten, Mark Muller managed to claim the Olympic Distance. The triathlete did this in a convincing manner. With his time of 02:08:36, he stayed well ahead of the competition. By winning the overall classification, Muller was also able to crown himself as the Holten champion.

In the third and final starting series of the Olympic distance, Muller immediately took the lead. The Holten native was the first to switch from swimming in the Domelaar to cycling and was also the first to transition from cycling to running. Despite the lead he had built up, Muller ran the course at a steady pace to finish in just over two hours. He did so to the accompaniment of applause. At that moment, both titles were already assured.

“It was not an easy race,” says Muller. “That is the triathlon of Holten: you want to give it your all. I didn’t slow down even though I knew I had a lead. You know you’re going to have a hard time.”

The title of 2018 is Muller’s third consecutive win in the Holten championship for the Olympic Distance. Muller: “I get to keep the trophy. Next year I won’t be able to defend the title from Holten. I’m moving to Deventer soon, so I won’t be a resident of Holten anymore. This will therefore be my last Holten championship for now. So, this is a beautiful ending.”

Cindy Brussé could call herself the fastest woman at the Olympic Distance. The athlete from Aalten stayed eight minutes ahead of runner-up Jorinde van der Laan with her time of 02:28:22. Janine Swaak secured bronze among the women.

Britt le Fevre can also call herself the fastest local from Holten for a year in the Olympic Distance. Le Fevre finished in a time of 02:49:48. In the battle for the Holten championship, she stayed five minutes ahead of Leonie Bouwmeester. Wendy Coster-Haas secured third place in the local championship.
