The 38th edition of the Holten Triathlon kicked off Friday evening with the Aebi Schmidt Youth Triathlon. Olle Klunder was the very first athlete to cross the finish line on Kalfstermansweide during the triathlon weekend. The Reclamemakers Business Triathlon and the Vivera Run were also part of the program on the first day of the Holten triathlon.
The first starting shot during the 38th edition of the Holten Triathlon was given Friday evening at 6:30 PM at swimming pool ‘t Twenhaarsveld, where the Aebi Schmidt Youth Triathlon started. Just over half an hour later, around 7:05 PM, Olle Klunder completed his triathlon as the first athlete.
That the athlete from Deventer was the very first triathlete to cross the finish line was a surprise for him, but he found it fun. “This was the second time I participated in a triathlon,” explained Klunder, who participated in the starting series for children aged 8 to 11 years. “I didn’t expect it to go so well. The first time I did a triathlon it didn’t go well. But now it did.”
Oliver Nissen also looked back on a successful participation in Holten. The resident of Buxterhude, Germany, near Hamburg, claimed the 5 kilometers of the Vivera Run Friday evening. Nissen completed the two laps of the Holten Triathlon running course in a time of 00:15:54, narrowly beating his fellow townsman Vincent Huppertz (00:15:56).
Nissen participated in the sprint distance of the Holten Triathlon in the previous edition but decided this year to leave out the swimming and cycling sections. “I’m not such a good swimmer,” explained the winner of the 5 kilometers. “Last year I think I finished second to last, but I wanted to participate again. This is one of the more well-known competitions in Europe. This year I’m mainly going to cheer for my teammates and have fun.”
In the 10 kilometers, Vincent te Brake was the first participant in the Vivera Run to cross the finish line in Holten. Also, the resident of Winterswijk described it as a remarkable race. “I’m recovering from a hamstring injury and to get in form, I’ve selected a few fun 10-kilometer races. I had heard good things about this one. The atmosphere in Holten is great, and things are well organized. That was indeed the case.”
Besides the Vivera Run and the youth triathlon, the Reclamemakers Business Triathlon was also completed Friday evening. Here, participants could compete either as teams or in relay form, where each participant is responsible for one part. In the relay, Team Povag B.V. 1 crowned themselves the winners of the business triathlon, while VolkerWessels 1 was the fastest team.
