Spaniard Baxter Cabrera wins in elite men, Frenchwoman is the fastest woman during the 36th Triathlon Holten

The 36th edition of the Triathlon Holten delivered a Spanish and French victory on Saturday. In the battle for the Europe Triathlon Premium Cup, the Spaniard Sergio Baxter Cabrera emerged victorious among the men. The Frenchwoman Mathilde Gautier was able to call herself the fastest female triathlete in the Salland village.

Baxter Cabrera was part of the leading group during the cycling leg and managed to shake off the competition during the running leg. The acceleration that the Spaniard applied after the first pass through the Holten triathlon arena ultimately proved too powerful for his competitors. Much to the delight of the Spanish triathlete.

,,I am very happy. I had start number 1 and I wanted to achieve that number in the race as well,” said Baxter Cabrera after his winning race. ,,It also created pressure. Everyone is looking at you. I haven’t held the finish tape for a long time. That’s why I really wanted to win.”

Mathilde Gautier was also able to cheer in Holten. The French triathlete stayed ahead of the British Sophie Alden and Olivia Mathias, thereby claiming victory in the elite women’s race. Gautier looked back on her victory with satisfaction afterwards.

,,The swimming went well and during the cycling, I worked together with an English girl. As a result, we had a reasonable lead. During the running, I kept going. I am very happy that I won. I didn’t expect it. I haven’t competed for a year because I had a foot injury.”

Both Baxter Cabrera and Gautier also spoke about the race in Holten. Both winners had compliments for the organization of the Holten triathlon. ,,In 2019, I also participated in Holten. I finished third then. I find Holten a fun race to participate in. It’s well organized, and the people are very friendly,” said Gautier.

,,It was my first time in Holten and the course was amazing,” Baxter Cabrera also spoke positively about the Triathlon Holten. ,,The water of the Domelaar was very clear, and the cycling course was also beautiful. During the running, it went up and down. I found that lovely as well. The weather was also perfect. Perfect conditions ultimately led to a perfect race.”
