Triathlon Holten donates sports shirts to Amsterdam UMC

Triathlon Holten shirts help healthcare workers in nursing Corona patients

The Triathlon Holten has donated a large number of sports shirts to the Amsterdam UMC. Among nurses there, due to the Corona control, there is a great need for breathable (sports) shirts. A Facebook post by Mark Tuitert, which included a call from nurse Floor Esvelt, brought this to the attention of the triathlon organization. The Triathlon Holten is happy to support the Amsterdam UMC in this and has immediately sent a large batch of sports shirts from previous editions.

In her call on Facebook, Esvelt explains why the need exists: “During the nursing of Corona patients, we have to wear all kinds of aprons and face masks continuously for an average of 6 hours straight to save materials. This is warm and stifling, especially since we cannot drink during these 6 hours. We are looking for someone/organization who can sponsor us shirts, preferably made of breathable material to wear under these aprons.”

Preferably larger batches
In the video by Mark Tuitert, Esvelt explains that she and her colleagues currently especially need larger batches of t-shirts. Floor Esvelt: “We are urgently looking for larger quantities of breathable t-shirts, or actually sports shirts, in various sizes for both men and women. It’s super kind, we get all people who want to provide 2, 3, 5, or 10 shirts, for example. Very cool, we are happy with everything. But it becomes very difficult to arrange all that for us, especially since we just have to work and take care of the patients.”

Mart Tuitert donates First Energy Gum
Tuitert visited Floor Esvelt to gift a box of his own First Energy Gum, a chewing gum that gives athletes a long-lasting energy boost, strength, and focus. Esvelt and her colleagues are also looking for chewing gum: “Because masks are currently very scarce, we are actually allowed only one facemask per nurse and facemasks are supposed to last six hours, which means you cannot drink for six hours. So it is very important that we can continue to produce saliva. And with a little energy on top, that’s of course fantastic.”

Also, the Enschede Marathon, partner of the Triathlon Holten, donates a batch of t-shirts.

Want to donate a batch of shirts?
The collection campaign is coordinated by Floor Esvelt herself, not the Amsterdam UMC, as they are naturally extremely busy at the moment. In Tuitert’s video, Esvelt makes an appeal to anyone who has a larger batch of sports shirts available. They can contact Floor Esvelt via fesvelt@hotmail.com, her Facebook page or the Facebook page Corona Dare to Ask/Help.
