Triathlon Weekend Full of Top Sport and Festivities

Finally Triathlon Holten Again

This weekend, Holten is finally once more the centerpiece of the international triathlon world. After a two-year absence due to corona, thousands of athletes, visitors, and volunteers meet on July 1st and 2nd. They will enjoy an event full of top sport, atmosphere, and many special features.

Europe Triathlon Premium Cup for International Elite Athletes

The Triathlon Holten is once again the battleground for an international triathlon for elite athletes in 2022. For the fifteenth consecutive year, the European Triathlon Union has awarded Holten a prestigious Premium Cup competition. This year, the junior series has also been awarded to Holten by the European federation, ensuring even more top-level spectacle.

The field of participants is extremely strong and promising. No less than six female triathletes from the top twenty of the World Triathlon Rankings will start on July 2nd among the women. The German Lindemann, ranked third, is the highest-ranked. Among the contenders, Rachel Klamer’s name must not be missing. The Twente triathlete, fourth at the Tokyo Olympics, has already won the competition in ‘her’ Holten six times. She is accompanied in Holten by no less than thirteen compatriots.

Among the elite men, Nygaard Priester, ranked 21st, hopes to prolong his 2019 title. He has to compete against three higher-ranked opponents from the top twenty. The Brit Alex Yee, ranked sixth, is a favorite for the final win. Attention is also focused on Dutch Champion Jorik van Egdom. He is accompanied by 12 compatriots who participate in the international elite company to compete for the podium.

Friday Evening is Youth Night

This year, Friday evening is entirely dedicated to the youth. The youth triathlon series (supersprint and sprint) for recreational athletes aged 8 to 19 will take place on Friday starting at 6:35 pm. They will be followed by the elite youth, competing for the prestigious Europe Triathlon Junior Cups. During the afterparty, there will be performances by the popular singer/rapper Paul Sinha and the band Alive.

Sportive and Festive Program Packed on Saturday

Besides the elite series, Saturday offers a packed sporty and festive program for recreational participants and the public.

The popular Vivera Run moves to Saturday morning. It will be organized for the fifth time, celebrating its first lustrum. Simultaneously, the corporate triathlon starts at 10:15 am in De Domelaar, followed by the elite series, the Olympic distance (3 series), and the eighth triathlon (9 series).

Special Olympics and Farewell to Icon Wim van den Broek

This year’s eighth triathlon series are extra special. For the first time in the history of the Special Olympics National Games, a triathlon competition has been added to the program for athletes with disabilities. The idea to set up its own program during the National Games weekend, which was organized in early June in Twente, turned out to be unfeasible for the emerging branch in G-sport. Therefore, it is included in the Triathlon Holten and a group of G-triathletes will participate in the eighth.

The last two series mark the farewell of Wim van den Broek, a known speaker and icon in the triathlon world. He chose to provide commentary on his last race in Holten. Relatives, friends, and acquaintances from the sports world honor him by participating in the special Wim van den Broek series. Among them are Syb van der Ploeg (De Kast) and Jetze Plat (reigning Paralympic champion triathlon). Wim has been present as a speaker in Holten 25 times.

Celebration of the 21st Anniversary of the Municipality of Rijssen-Holten

The famous afterparty on Saturday evening is organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Rijssen-Holten. This is to also celebrate the 21st anniversary of Rijssen-Holten during the event. Last year’s celebration of the 20th anniversary was canceled due to corona. The popular band Alice Springs and DJ Boontje will conclude Saturday evening with a bang.
