Lasse Nygaard-Priester and Lisa Tertsch Win in Elite Category
The thirty-fifth edition of the Triathlon Holten resulted in two German victories at the elite level. Among the men, it was the German Lasse Nygaard-Priester who crossed the finish line first in the ETU Premium European Cup. Fellow countrywoman Lisa Tertsch followed Nygaard-Priester’s example and claimed victory among the women.
Under a radiant sun and with tropical temperatures, Nygaard-Priester quickly created a gap during the running segment. The German triathlete seemed unchallenged en route to victory. In the last lap, however, the Australian Max Neumann came dangerously close. With about 150 meters to go, Neumann even took the lead, but the Australian was ultimately defeated in the sprint by Nygaard-Priester.
,”I actually hoped the gap would be big enough,” Nygaard-Priester recounted afterward about the nail-biting final meters. “But I felt Max coming up behind me. So, in the last meters, I tried to save energy to beat him in the sprint.”
The victory led to joy for Nygaard-Priester, who had long struggled with an Achilles tendon injury. “Two weeks ago, I started training again because I had a setback. I didn’t have good legs today either. So I’m very happy that I won.”
There was also joy for Lisa Tertsch, who managed to crown herself the fastest woman among the elite. Although the German winner had anything but a flawless race. “The swimming didn’t go well,” said Tertsch. “There was a lot of pushing and pulling. And during cycling, there were many accidents. It wasn’t the course’s fault; the course was good. People were too careless.”
